There are 4 months left until 2021. Don't let anyone waste your time. Go after new results. Focus on growing your goal list, bank account and self love! Cut out the distractions and avoid zombies. Remove zombies in your life and if your surroundings are full of them, you need to be caution. I’m once a “corporate” zombie and I know how it feels. It’s what I called inner resignation. Back then, the only thing that keeps me going is MONEY. It’s sad but there’s no way out. The only thing i think of was, "what's for lunch?" Even helpers can be a zombie too. Thus, if you feel that your helper had signs of a domestic zombie, do give her a helping hand and be generous to nurture her and make the job fun again!
Based on personal ups and downs, I had found that “MEANING” of work (beyond money) is MOST important in life and would like to share with you and your helpers. For employer, “meaning” can be in form of nurturing the helper. For helper, “meaning” can be in form of taking very good care of the baby/elderly.
It is important to manage your helper as it will save time and money on changing maids.
Here are 5 useful tips on managing your helper to avoid her being a domestic zombie:
1. Nurturing
When someone new comes, you can avoid her, or you can nurture her. Be generous. For first 6 months, they had not settled down yet, they are thinking should I leave or stay.
2. Mastery
Cleaning is also a skill. Have substance. What are your unique strengths? In short, Substance = Attitude + Skills + Knowledge. Let your helper observe how you like things to be done. How and when to feed the baby, how to clean the bottles, change the nappy and so on. Then let her try out on her own. Be gentle and nice to her, do not look down on her.
3. Impact
Do you know that the maximum times you can change helper is 3 times a year? If more than 4 times, you will need to go through an interview with MOM to see if you are really suitable to be an employer. If you change helper too frequently, the MOM will also make it hard for you to apply work permit for new maid. Therefore helper’s management is important.
4. Love
If your helper is looking after baby, it is going to take some time for the baby to get used to the new helper. Your elderly parents may prefer to stick to old helper as they have gotten used to the way the old helper helps them. However, by showing more love to your helper, a happy helper can be an efficient helper! A happy helper may go the extra mile to help and look after your baby or parents just like her own.
5. Growth
Get proactive. New helpers might have better ways to do the cleaning too. To avoid repetition on housework training when you need to spend another round of time and effort on training your new helper to get use of your household, including appliances and communicating your household rules and expectations. Why not, do the other way round. Listen to what she have to share and add value to your family. Sometimes, you might be surprise by their cleaning hacks that save you lots of time.
If you want to you avoid keeping a domestic zombie, you need to finding meaning in your helper’s work and start growing her.
Just like a seed, when you water, it will grow! Helpers will grow the moment we decide to.
Transform your life at home!
Stay strong! Stay Happy!
