Life always seems to be throwing rocks at us and gives us a lot of stress and pressure. How do you handle stress?
Here's a few tips to help you manage and be able to perform and function.
1. Don't Be A Perfectionist
A lot of times when we try to make everything perfect, we want everything to line up perfectly so that we wont make a mistake, the problem is when you are focusing to be that perfectionist, that usually, almost always slows down your progress. FORGET TRYING TO MAKE IT PERFECT, and chances are its not going to be perfect anyway, we are chasing something that almost doesn't exist. Having that flexibility to be able to pivot in terms of behaviours and mindset is very critical, so VALUE PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION. You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going. As long as we are moving forward, and ok with making some mistakes, and not getting it perfect, we are still moving near to our goals.
2. Script Your Day
Most people do not know this and i'm sharing it with you. Not just scheduling your day, i'm talking about scripting your day, there's a difference, scheduling your day sometimes it could be other people they want your time, if you look at your calendar right now, do you have a lot of other people's agendas on your calendar that are simply distractions or that you feel it's an obligation that you have to attend to some of these meetings and things.
Scripting is you BLOCK OUT EVERYTHING THAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO throughout the day, your lunch you script it with whom you want to meet, your exercise time you put it in, you block it out so that other people cannot put their whatever agendas onto your calendar, you protect your time. PROTECT YOUR TIME more so and you protect your money because that's your most valuable asset.
3. Write Everything Out
You might feel pressured because you are overwhelmed. Instead of keeping everything in your head, why don't we write everything down. Here's an example with my helper. Once i instructed my helper to help clean the storeroom however, she was so overwhelmed and feels very stressed. So we sat down together and spend about 30 minutes and writing down the list of things to do. When we did that, suddenly she feels relieved! So in your mind you may be thinking you have got hundreds things to do but when you lay all out and you might be surprised it's not that hard at all. Don't keep it in your head, write it out.
4. Focus On Your Strength
You are not born to be great at everything. You shouldn't try to do everything yourself. Delegate things out. The very fact that you try to do everything yourself and you spend a lot of your time on your weaknesses that's what holding you back from going to the next level. Focus on your strength and delegate your weaknesses.
Hope the above helps you to manage stress at work or in your daily life.
I always believe in good leadership. Happy Employer, Happy Helper!
